Text Brigades and EDSA Dos

The 2001 EDSA Revolution, also called as EDSA II (EDSA Dos) or the Second People Power Revolution was a four-day political protest from January 17-20, 2001 that overthrew the thirteenth President of the Philippines, Joseph Estrada. It was fueled when eleven (11) prosecutors of the former president walked out during the impeachment trial. ICT played an important role in this historic event by the use of mobile technologies. They toppled the president by the use of text messages. The text messages that rapidly spread included the rumors and persuasive messages to join a huge protest rally. By using text messages, rally organizers mobilized a huge number of people for street protests against the corrupt president. ICT played an important role during the revolution. Without it, the revolution will not be successful and we could not have eliminate someone who uses his power for his own good.
